I’m a seasoned product manager and thought leader with large-scale internet and enterprise experience. I’ve worked in, created and led high-performance teams who've delivered successful Web & IT products for sector leading companies. 

As an ITIL service manager, Prince 2 project manager and a SCRUM product owner; I've run concurrent projects, managed cross-functional teams; employed & adapted methodologies to suit requirements & resources while delivering business goals on time and in budget.

Multidisciplinary, data-driven and a capable communicator, I'm comfortable working with C-suite executives, engineers and others in aligning teams and effort behind strong business objectives to produce successful outcomes.

Since mid-2014 I have taken a hiatus and immigrated from the U.K to Portugal to care for my convalescing parents, during which time I have also undertaken freelance work.

NLA media access

‘NLA media access’ is a collective rights management organisation which operates on behalf of newspaper and magazine publishers. NLA licenses and disseminates original publisher through a complex heterogeneous technology environment. Starting as a Product Manager, I was promoted to senior that extended my role to include direct-reports, service strategy, business intelligence services, product development and continual improvement budget for the complete service portfolio.

2010 - 2014
  • Directed the development, implementation and launch of ‘eClips web’ from concept to launch. ‘eClips web’ realised a 57.4% ROI in its 3rd year post-launch.
  • Enhanced cross-team and vendor collaboration by rolling-out and driving adoption of JIRA project & team tracking and Trello task management.
  • Delivered ‘WebClips’, an automated method of quantitatively assess ‘eClips web’ performance against competitors. This produced marketing collateral which demonstrated the platforms key selling point.
  • Guided integration of the data-exchange protocol required to enable Magazine licensing.
  • Directed Online Article Tracking System (OATS) from concept to launch. A system which automatically discovers use of publisher’s original content on the web, reports intelligence via a Web UI and converts these to actionable leads.
  • Rolled-out corporate identity change from ‘Newspaper Licensing Agency’ to ‘NLA media access’ across the entire product portfolio. In addition to which a new CMS and corporate website, as well as a re-purposed blog CMS and site was launched.
  • Delivered 'ClipShare mobile' increasing ‘ClipShare’ adoption by journalists by 27%.

  • Launched Clipsearch. A PAYG or subscription research tool which enables users to search an archive of U.K newspaper articles.

As a senior systems engineer, I was responsible for 3rd line application & technical management, planning and implementing efficiencies, defining and documenting standards, monitoring and configuration management, security, capacity management and supporting the product release cycle.

Working for MSN service operations as a systems engineer, we managed 91 web properties and their supporting systems across 3 data-centres in EMEA. Additionally we provided 3rd line support for publishing platforms in APAC & LATAM. Promoted to Problem manager, I was responsible for 3rd-line problem, application & technical management.

  • Drove cost & quality efficiencies by consolidating web-server farms across 3 DC’s.
  • Evaluated and implemented connection aggregation devices with the aim of reducing server
    overhead. Produced whitepaper which included cost/benefit analysis which resulted in its inclusion across Microsoft’s Internet DC SOE offering.
  • Evaluated, tested and deployed L4/L7 load-balancing devices which offloaded server overhead and reduced server farm sizes but also enabled service operations teams to direct services by traffic profile allowing further efficiencies of scale.
  • Participated in the planning & roll-out of a ‘follow-the sun’ support model for all managed MSN properties.
